This is one of my favorite albums this year. If you haven't heard it, you should. Its an atmospheric, heart felt record. Real Estate's "Days" is simply a classic. Not only is it a classic, you can get it on cassette! Get one while they are available.

"If you use a zip disk nowadays, you’re probably one of two types of people: a retro computer nerd or a dogged musician recording at home. And Lost Boy?, thankfully, is the latter. USA, the Brooklynites forthcoming LP, was recorded entirely on an 8-track zip-disk. That doesn’t mean this is your bog-standard lo-fi bedroom record, the album has more depth than that. For starters, while most so-called “lo-fi” records are submerged in unrelenting hiss and fuzz, USA is a record of clarity that sounds like it came out of a studio. And whereas your typical lo-fi band will sabotage even the slightest hints of melody and tune, USA is full of unashamedly catchy songs, with understandable lyrics and all.
I hate to go all psychotherapy on you, but for me USA feels more like a process than a record. The album is bookended by tracks of warped, slowly reversed tapes that act as graduations into and out of Lost Boy?’s psyche, as if the curtains are peeled back for 50 minutes before being snapped shut again. The album begins properly with the title track, USA. Itself an example of Lost Boy?’s left-field humour, the song is a challenge to the sentimental, sappy bent in modern American culture that finds Davey singing ‘we all got stuff from back in the day, no one’s perfect in the USA’. Chugging, distorted guitars combine with crashing cymbals to create a wall of crunching sound that finds a heady, unrelenting groove.
For someone who’s written hundreds of songs, most of which have appeared somewhere on the web, Lost Boy?’s quality control on USA is TIGHT. Each of the tracks, discounting the trippy intro and outro, could be a single. In the neo-country of Desert Mirage, the countrified imagery of Neil Young et al is internalised and used as existential metaphor. Revenge Song, on the other hand, finds Davey plotting to revenge the abuses of childhood bullies (‘we’ll call it even with my fist in your face.’) An All American voiceover haunts the track, overlapping the vocals and spewing the detritus of Lost Boy?’s subconscious as the guitars spiral out of control. It’s almost Freudian Punk." - Tailor Jack (Psychkicks Magazine)
"Sometimes it’s nice to find your way back to the sounds of your formative years and Lost Boy has a pretty solid lock on the early days of alternative and grunge. Sounding like a cut you might have found on 120 Minutes in 1993, “Chew” hits me with a vibe that reminds me of The Lemonheads’ use of melody and jangly riffs. That’s just another way of saying that this jam is pretty fucking awesome and way fun." - Perfect Midnight World
"Don't be fooled by the first four seconds of the new Lost Boy? track "USA." I am pretty sure that brief snippet of acoustic guitar is there simply to fuck with you before heavy, crunching guitars come cascading into your speakers.
The rest of the song continues along like past Lost Boy? outputs with its hazy, stoned-out punk, distorted vocals and dry, sardonic lyrics detailing America's favorite pastime: drinking beer." - Prefix Magazine
